These are my latest flower studies and perhaps my last for a while. I've been working on some new ideas, which may include florals, but they won’t be taking centre stage.
From left to right: Red Peony - acrylics, Pink Bengal Rose - oil, Dogwood - oil and collage, August 1816 - acrylic.

Storytime
August 1816, Acrylic (the pink peony painting)
The Year Without a Summer — a global climate anomaly triggered by the eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia the year before. Frost in August. Red skies. Failed harvests. Migrations. A world turned upside-down.
Historically, floral paintings were commissioned to symbolise status, beauty, and abundance, but they were also a way to own flowers that never faded. Today, where seasons are uncertain, perhaps we’re doing the same thing - preserving what’s precious before it slips away.
As always, thanks for dropping by and following my progress.
